THIS PAGE IS DEDICATED TO THE WOMEN WHOSE MEDICAL CONCERNS ARE NOT TYPICAL!  I HAVE SPENT 15 OR MORE YEARS SUFFERING FROM WHO KNOWS WHAT, AND HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OR MORE LIKELY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS JUST TO HAVE ANTIBIOTICS SHOVED AT ME.  THEY DO HAVE THEIR PURPOSE, BUT AFTER GETTING INTERNET ACCESS AND BEING ABLE TO SATISFY MY CURIOSITY DOING RESEARCH OF MY SYMPTOMS I NOW KNOW THAT AT LEAST IN PART MY PROBLEMS ARE PROBABLY A VARIETY OF VERY BASIC PROBLEMS WHICH HAVE GONE ON TOO LONG AND DETERIORATED MY HEALTH TO A DANGEROUS LEVEL.  ANTIBIOTICS IS NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER.  GETTING BACK TO BASICS MAY BE THE MISSING STEP!!!

(I have had to pretty much figure out a lot of my health problems on my own AND have found natural remedies which I discussed with my physican and found they are safe!!!  There are many natural remedies which have not yet been tested so you need to read up on any you are considering)

Sinus infections

I had chronic sinus infections for 5 years, sometimes needing to be treated with an antibiotic each month!  I had many allergy tests which proved to be mostly negative, with just a slight allergy to dust, which I already knew I had just by cleaning out a closet!  This condition of almost continuous infections affected my ability to work, drive, and college class grades.  I was generally just not functioning properly!  One day I almost killed my daughter when she fell out of the car - because of a severe sinus infection that left me almost non-functional.   I didn't have anyone I could turn to for help or to take care of my chores.  I just did the best I could, which on this day was not good enough.  I forgot to make sure my daughter's seat belt was buckled or to check her car door to make sure she closed it good.  These sinus infections left me dizzy, with the infection and fluid moving into my ears which even affected my sleep.  I suspect after a time I may have suffered from sleep deprivation, but that's another item.  After hundreds and possibly over a thousand dollars being spent and very little relief in my condition, I accidentally learned that a person could have dry sinuses which can crack and become inflamed!  I asked my physician about it and he said if I thought that was a possibility, I could try a nasal saline solution, bought for a dollar or so over the counter.  BINGO!!!  I still suffer from occassional dizziness, but I no longer have chronic sinus or ear infections, and when I feel an infection coming on, I just pull out the saline spray...

(I recently read there may also be lubricant sprays and gels that can help with this condition.  Check with your doctor!)

This looks like an informative spot for this subject...   http://www.cma.ca/cpgs/rhinitis/class.htm

WOW!  The following notice is on one of the other web pages for sinusitis, but apparently my former physician didn't go by this advice...

"Indications for referral to a specialist:

" Most patients with acute sinusitis can be diagnosed and
managed by primary care physicians. Indications for referral include the development of complications, the failure of second-line therapy and recurrent disease (more than 3 episodes per year)."         http://www.cma.ca/cpgs/sinus/index.htm#indicat

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROM

I have suffered from fatigue and more for about 10 years now.  My once healthy body has gone waco!!!   When CFS came out, I thought YES, THIS IS IT, I CAN NOW GET SOME HELP...   Boy was I wrong.  My physician refused to even discuss this topic.  Said it wouldn't do any good to even talk about it because there is no cure.   I feel his attitute is very unprofessional.  We should have at least been able to discuss it.  For those of you who want to know more about this malady, the following looks like a good place.  And insist that your doctor talk to you.   When mine refused to discuss it with me, I found another doctor!  If this one gets too busy for me, I'll find another one!

ADULT ONSET ASTHMA

Asthma runs in my family, but I was never affected by it like my siblings.   There were times when I couldn't scream and run as much as the other kids, but I was made to feel like it was laziness.  As a child and young adult, I never questioned the wisdom of this.  There were times when I would cough a lot, although I didn't have a cold, but it was rare until I was in my late 30's.  I then began to get colds and visuses and coughed on and off pretty much all year.  It was a hacking cough.  When I questioned the doctor about it I was given a prescription for cough and decongestion and told to come back.  It finally got so bad that for several months I coughed so hard I was wetting my pants just about all the time.  I had had this problem for several years, but never this bad before.  I was getting desperate.   Can you imagine going to a customer's place of business and coughing and wetting your pants!!!  One night I had an argument with my daughter, and I got so upset I could barely breath!  I was so scared, I had never had anything like that happen before.  I was so worried that I was going to suffocate and didn't want my daughter to see, that I hid.  Strangely, after I wasn't so upset anymore, the attack eased off and then went away.  It was at this point that I suspected it was not just a regular cough or cold problem.  Sure enough, my doctor tried my on an inhaler and I have been doing much much much better!

MUSCLE & JOINT PAIN

the following is still underconstruction so check back for the rest of the details...

The word -arthritis- literally means joint inflammation.  It is often used to indicate any of the more than 100 rheumatic type diseases. Such disorders can affect the joints as well as other connective tissues of the body, including important supporting structures such as ligaments, muscles and tendons, as well as the internal organs protective coverings.

The rheumatic diseases vary greatly from person to person and from one disease to another. Their
effects vary from a slight pain, stiffness, and swelling to crippling and disability. Therapies range from
a warm bath and massage, to changes in lifestyle, to combinations of antiarthritic drugs or surgery.

There are chemical enzymes (e.g., CPK, SGOT, SGPT, aldolase) which are normally concentrated within muscle fibers and which escape into the blood circulation when muscle fibers are being damaged by inflammation.  Thus, tests for these chemicals in the blood are abnormal in SLE myositis. systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)  These tests can also be used to determine the severity of muscle involvement: more severe myositis results in a higher level of these enzymes in the blood. Such tests are therefore useful in the diagnosis of SLE myositis, and in following the course of the disease and its response to therapy.

joint pain is more commonly caused by osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis than by SLE. Therefore, a diagnosis of SLE must be based on a thorough physical examination, a detailed medical history and the results of specialized laboratory tests in addition to symptoms of muscle and joint pain.  (Gotta go back and find out who wrote this to give them credit!!!  check back.....)

Osteoarthritis in the knees and hands occurs more frequently in women; in the hips, the disease affects men and women equally.

American Medical Association  http://www.ama-assn.org/insight/spec_con/arthriti/arthrit2.htm

Fibromyalgia is a distinctive syndrome which can be diagnosed with clinical precision. It may occur
in the absence (primary fibromyalgia) or presence of other conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or
systemic lupus erythematosus (concomitant fibromyalgia). It is rarely secondary to another disease,
in the sense that alleviation of the associated disease also cures the fibromyalgia. It may be
confidently diagnosed in patients with widespread musculo-skeletal pain and multiple tender points.
